Of course you want to take the best measures to make sure that your operators are not only safe but comfortable. Making sure that your operators are fitted with properly sized shoe covers, designed with compatibility and safety in mind, is key to footwear in your cleanroom. Compatibility
There are many options in the material construction of shoe covers. We, at Valutek, recommend a PVC sole on a polypropylene laminated with plastic upper cover. The sole being PVC, which is one substrate without lamination, means there is no contamination coming off of the shoecover. The stitching is also seamed on the inside, so none of the seaming will release particles into the cleanroom. In opposition, and the most common, is a spun-bound polypropylene shoe cover which is like cotton candy. We do not recommend this material, uncoated, as it can and will leave particles behind. Safety If safety is one of your highest concerns, and it should be, that is another reason to choose shoe covers with PVC soles. PVC sole material has an embossing to it. This embossing will prevent slippage, even on wet flooring, and we highly recommend it. Anti-skid coating is not as effective, nor as clean. Comfort You want your operators to be safe and comfortable. Proper sizing is imperative for both. Our shoe covers come in extra-small, small, medium, large and extra-large for the simple reason that operators have different sized feet. Inside the shoe covers is color coding which reveals sizing. A good fit should be flat from heel to toe, with no bagginess. If the shoe cover is tapered at the bottom with excess at the end, it is too large. This can result in the operator slipping when moving around, and perhaps tripping and even falling. Bagginess has a tendency to stick to tacky mats as well. On top of this, it is just uncomfortable to walk in. Valutek's shoe covers are disposable, breathable and lightweight to provide the best possible comfort. Compatibility, safety and comfort are the three keys for choosing shoe covers for your operators in the cleanroom. The feet are the second-biggest particle generator in a critical environment, so proper containment is highly important.
